This talk will focus on our recent efforts in function-driven divergent and efficient synthesis of medicinally im-portant natural products. The target natural products include bioactive macrolides, alkaloids and polycyclic terpene molecules. New synthetic strategies and catalytic methodologies developed toward these total syntheses will be highlighted. Biological evaluations and target identification studies of certain natural products and their analogs will be discussed as well, which will demonstrate that total synthesis efforts can often lead to the identi-fication of better or new biological function.
