Decentering the Anthropocene

Podium discussion of a Japanese movie

Seminarraum 1, Sinologie (Campus, Hof 2, Eingang 2.3., 1. Stock)
Spitalgasse 2, 1090 Wien

Diskussion, Round Table

The idea of Anthropocene was coined in Europe and has been spreading

from Europe around the world. Different regions show different reactions

to a world of climate change, natural disasters and human induced damage

to the environment. On the basis of a recent film from Japan our

discussants will introduce East Asian approaches to the Anthropocene and

will voice their opinion on why it is important for us to understand

these non-European approaches.

Discussants: Dr. Johannes Kaminski, Marie-Curie-Fellow, University of

Vienna

Marija Tomic, Graduate Student of Japanese Studies, University of Vienna

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Susanne Weigelin-Schwiedrzik, Sinology, University of

Vienna

Moderator: Prof. Dr. Andrea Riemenschnitter, Sinology, University of

Zurich
