This paper has two aims. One is ethnographic: to explore the way in which a specific group of young people, motorcycle taxi drivers, achieve a presence in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. The second is methodological: to propose ways in which anthropologists of youth might approach their project through attention to social relations. This is intended as an antidote to the focus on issues of identity which has served as the impetus for the production of the anthropology of youth as a sub discipline up until this point.
