The book - based on the international conference on "Interdisciplinary Approaches to Spirituality in the Literatures of the English Speaking World", convened in Vienna in 2009 - reflects the current state of reasearch in the filed of spiritual literature and the cross-cultural and interdisciplinary study of spirituality. Gathering fourteen critical essays by scholars working in various disciplines this book explores a corpus of encoded narratives of, as well as reflections on, the Sacred in British literature from the Late Middle Ages to the 21st century. Pluridisciplinary in nature and interdisciplinary in method, "British LIterature and Spirituality" illustrates the hermeneutic potential of critical readings that transcend the boundaries of English studies.
