SPECIAL EVENT: Happy Science (K?fuku no Kagaku) - A Profile
Founded in 1986 by ?kawa Ry?h? (b. 1956), ‘Happy Science’ (K?fuku no Kagaku), within several years, has evolved into a major player in recent Japanese religious history. Impelled by universal salvational goals, early on Happy Science proclaimed the aim to become a globalised religion. Today, the movement has established numerous branches spanning five continents, including a centre in Vienna. With the foundation of the ‘Happiness Realisation Party’ (k?fuku jitsugent?), Happy Science has now also entered the political arena in Japan.
Dr Jiro Imai, a Chief Lecturer of the Happy Science International Headquarters, Japan, will introduce the history and the main doctrinal tenets of Happy Science, also providing first-hand insights into the group’s current affairs.
The seminar has been jointly organised by the Department of Religious Studies and the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Vienna.
