Vortrag

6. Gastvortrag der Reihe „LECTURES ON THE SECOND PUBLIC SPHERE. Contributions to Performance and Intermedia Art in Eastern Europe”

The presentation will focus on the relationship between punk music and the Hungarian Neo-Avant-Garde through the example of the band Spions. Their lyrics, visual effects and cultural references are the appropriation of the visual propaganda of totalitarian states. Political acts of the band were rejected by the official cultural politics as well as by the Neo-Avant-Garde scene. The significance of Spions reaches far beyond the scope of punk music: their art incorporated pop music, media art, performance art, body art and experimental theatre.
