Researching Entangled Revolutions: Palestine‘s transformation into a global leftist cause (Sune Haugbølle, Roskilde University)

Vortrag

From the late 1960s, Palestine solidarity developed as an ‘entangled’ project aligning the energies and ambitions of the Palestinian liberation movement with various progressive, revolutionary forces around the world. This presentation presents new evidence from archives, private papers, and interviews that show how Palestine was ‘globalized’ as a central cause for the Left. The material gives new insight into alliances and partnerships, and the exchange of ideas and resources between solidarity activists in Norway and Denmark and Palestinian organisations in Beirut. The lecture also discusses the alternative lens ethnographies and social histories of revolutions can offer and how Eurocentric concepts of modern revolutionary movements are challenged through revolutionary intellectual writings from local but also transnational places of struggle. What are necessary transdisciplinary perspectives that allow a holistic view of revolutions and upheavals against hegemonic power structures? Why do they matter today for Social Sciences?
