Vortrag
In this talk we present new methods for the restoration of historical music from old shellac recordings of the time period 1927-1950. In one project different shellacs with the same recording are utilized and combined to obtain optimal results. The statistical methods used are from robust statistics, nonparametric statistics and time series analysis, and include time warping, noise reduction and filter design. In a second project upper harmonics of the music are restored - namely those harmonics which are in principle available but buried in noise. Statistical methods used are spectral inference, spectral regression and linear filtering. We conclude the talk with some open research problems stimulated by the project.
