TRANSLATING RELIGIOUS DISCOURSE

 

This lecture addresses the central position that translation has held in the dissemination of world religions and examines the particular issues that arise when translating religious texts, such as how to translate a sacred language. There is an examination of an Old High German spell and its translation. Finally, some ideas are given as to what the future may hold for this field.
