Tagung

The Salo W. and Jeannette M. Baron Award for Scholarly Excellence in Research of the Jewish Experience was installed at the University of Vienna in 2020 and is generously founded by the Salo W. and Jeannette M. Baron Foundation/Knapp Family Foundation. The Baron Awards are among the highest endowed awards in the field of Jewish Studies.

In the framework of the first award ceremony, a Young Scholars Workshop dedicated to the topic Jewish identity and experience is organized. This workshop will bring the laureates of our Young Scholars Awards together with internationally distinguished scholars studying the Jewish experience. The workshop will facilitate a conversation about important topics within Jewish studies and will allow junior scholars to benefit from the experience of distinguished scholars in the field.

This year’s Senior Award laureate is Michael Brenner (LMU Munich, AU Washington) will open the workshop with an impulse lecture and will respond to the contributions of the laureates of the two young scholars awards. Further colleagues in the field will contribute their research findings related to Jewish identity and experience.

The workshop will be held on May 31, 2021 at 4.00 – 8.00 p.m. CEST (Vienna time) via Zoom. Colleagues working and/or interested in Jewish Studies and related research fields are invited to participate in a fruitful discussion. Please pre-register for participation via email at baronawards.judaistik@univie.ac.at.
