Vortrag

With wide-ranging impact on several health related parameters, acute and chronic stress have been in the focus of research for many decades. Several theories that explain stress related behavior have emerged, with the “fight-or-flight” concept being the most prominent. However, accumulating evidence broadens the conceptual understanding of “stress” and adds evidence for a “tend-and-befriend” response after stress. Whether patients suffering from social anxiety disorder (SAD) may show this behavioral reaction still needs to be proven. After an introduction to stress research methods with different stress induction techniques, the talk will present data on the effects of stress on social behavior in health and social phobia including possible psychobiological regulators such as empathy or oxytocin.
