Vortrag

Mundhum texts form a large corpus of poetical oral narration which has been transmitted from generation to generation by Limbu ritual specialists, such as Phedangma, Samba, Yetchamba, Yeba/Yema and lay mundhum experts known as Tumyehang. After discussing how Mundhum are identified as a specific form of narrative in the Limbu community, this talk will focus on the classification of Limbu Mundhum. I will present the various classifications formerly elaborated by Limbu scholars and highlight the basis they used to organize Mundhum. I will then present the new classification that I have made and which takes the function of the Mundhum in Sikkim into account.
