Der von der Deutschen Thyssen Stiftung geförderte Workshop "Populismus und Demokratietheorie" behandelt zwei Themen: Die Formen von Populismus und das Verhältnis von Populismus und Demokratie. Der Workshop soll zu einer Schärfung von Populismusansätzen aus politik- und demokratietheoretischer Sicht und insbesondere zur wissenschaftlichen Debatte über das Verhältnis von Populismus und Demokratie beitragen. Ist Populismus eine Gefahr für die (liberale) Demokratie oder ist er mit (bestimmten Merkmalen liberaler) Demokratie verbunden? Welche Antworten geben unterschiedliche Demokratietheorien auf diese Frage?
Es werden drei Hauptredner_innen sprechen: Prof.in Paula Diehl, Universität Kiel; Prof. Oliver Marchart, Universität Wien und Prof. Martin Nonnhof, Universität Bremen. Aus den 81 Vortragsvorschlägen eines Call for Papers wurden 12 weitere Beitragende ausgewählt. Der Workshop findet in englischer Sprache statt.
