The Role of Populism and Euroscepticism

in Shaping the Future

Aula am Campus der Universität Wien
Spitalgasse 2-4 / Hof 1.11, 1090 Wien

Vortrag

With Brexit on the horizon and the Eurozone’s continuing vulnerability the European Union (EU) faces multiple crises. These have arguably accelerated politicization of EU issues and gave rise to right-wing populist movements all over Europe. Politicization, populism, and Euroscepticism developed to become dominant challenges in everyday politics as much as in intergovernmental bargains. Hence, as a result, the transnational cleavage between Europeanists and Eurosceptics puts European integration under heavy strain. We discuss dynamics of politicization, populism, and Euroscepticism, and how these are likely to change the future of Europe.
