Modern Yoga is a phenomenon of considerable dimensions. Daily, yoga practices attract thousands of new practitioners and every day many millions performs one of its infinite variations. Although there is a general consensus on the fact that yoga can be traced back to the ancient past, many contemporary practices are ‘true inventions’ of our days. In this presentation, the logic of the continuous reconfiguration of yoga will be addressed and related to the role contemporary Indology may play in handling and interpreting this unique cultural phenomenon.
