Gastvortrag von Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dina Porat

Five Popes – four visits – two declarations - the Israeli Perspective on the Changes in the Vatican towards the Jewish people and its State since the Holocaust

Hörsaal 46 (HS) im Hauptgebäude der Universität Wien
Universitätsring 1, 1010 Wien

Vortrag

The lecture will follow responses, or the lack of responses, of Israelis – be it the public at large, the government, the National Theatre, Yad Vashem members, the Chief Rabbinate, students and others – to the positive changes in the Vatican towards the Jewish people and its state since the Holocaust, as reflected in the speeches and activities of five Popes and the visits of four of them in the Land of Israel. The assumption underlying the lecture is that while the Church considered its steps as theological rapprochement, the Israelis were looking for recognition of the horrors of the Holocaust and of the State of Israel.
