Claire Tomalin is a journalist and biographer extraordinaire. Her award-winning books include "The Life and Death of Mary Wollstonecraft" (1974), "The Invisible Woman: The Story of Nelly Ternan and Charles Dickens" (1991; now a major motion picture starring Ralph Fiennes), "Jane Austen: A Life" (1997), "Samuel Pepys: The Unequalled Self" (2002), "Thomas Hardy: The Time-Torn Man" (2006), and "Charles Dickens: A Life" (2011).
