Enhancement of Polymer Properties by Nanoparticles

Gastvortrag von Univ.-Prof. Dr. Clemens Holzer (Montanuniversität Leoben, Department Kunststofftechnik)

Seminarraum 2124 der Fakultät für Chemie, 1. Stock
Währinger Straße 42, 1090 Wien

Seminar, Workshop, Kurs

Nanotechnology is one of the technologies that is supposed to have a big impact in the future on our daily life in all important applications like health, energy, transport or communication. It is expected that a great share of around 30 % will be directly connected to nanomaterials.

Polymers on the other hand are regarded as the material of the 21st century since they are easy to adapt to various conditions and polymer parts can be economically produced in mass production. So there are a lot of efforts to combine nanotechnology with polymers. One very promising way are so called polymer nanocomposites where various nanoparticles are mixed with polymers to enhance properties and add new functionalities e.g. flame retardancy, antimicrobial effects or barrier properties.

In this lecture you will become familiar with fundamentals of nanotechnology and polymers and the ways of production, the possibilities of polymer nanocomposites, the limits, and the desired applications.
