How should a robot perceive the world?

MIS-Talk: Dr. Ashutosh Saxena (Cornell University, USA)

Vortrag

We want robots to work in human environments, use human objects, perform tasks for humans, and do so in the presence of or in collaboration with humans. Yet, for most reasoning methods for robotic perception and manipulation, humans play a secondary role. In contrast, I propose to make humans central to our reasoning methods. The primary insight is that by enabling robots to efficiently imagine what a human would do in a given situation, the robot can not only better select actions that match human preferences and accommodate human capabilities but also perform much better at traditional tasks of perception, planning and manipulation.
