Surveillance Life: Predisposed in Welfare State Denmark (Ayo Wahlberg, University of Copenhagen)

Übungsraum IKSA (NIG, 4. Stock) - hybrid event
Universitätsstraße 7, 1010 Wien

Vortrag

What happens when increasing numbers of people are identified as having an inherited elevated risk of serious disease? In this talk, I use the routinized practices of preventing colorectal cancer among persons who knowingly live with Lynch syndrome in Denmark. While I focus on their (and their families’) experiences of lifelong medical surveillance, I will at the same time explore what the infrastructuring of a preventive healthcare complex in Denmark over the past century can tell us about what a welfare state is?

This talk is organized in collaboration with the Health Matters research group and the „Wiener Dialoge der Medizinanthropologie“.
