Each semester the research group GAPS (Gender, Affects, Politics, State) of the University of Vienna, is hosting the event Gender Gala where activists and/or researchers are invited to talk about recent and important topics in feminist debates and discourses.

We are very excited to announce our guests for the beginning term:

Presentation and discussion in English with activists from Ciocia Wienia Collective:

As we see access to abortions diminishing and abortion clinics closing, the burden of abortion provision is pushed onto activists and their networks of support.

Pregnancy termination is illegal in Austria, and almost fully banned in Poland, therefore cross-border solidarity and support are crucial for many women, lesbians, inter, trans*, non-binary and agender people.

English:

Ciocia Wienia in Vienna is an informal group of feminist activists. They support people from Poland and other countries, where access to abortion is difficult or impossible, in organizing a procedure in Vienna.

The activist collective provides information about reproductive rights and available forms of abortion in Austria, and helps in the organization of travel, accommodation, the abortion procedure, and translation.

Ciocia Wienia also offers support in access to anonymous birth. Whenever possible, financial support is offered, too.

They provide a non-judgmental space for all people with an (un)wanted pregnancy: cis, non-binary, trans*, inter and queer persons, regardless of nationality, legal status, and place of residency.

How to participate:

We kindly ask you to only participate on-site at the event, if you feel healthy, or even have been tested negative for COVID-19. Take care of each other. You do not need to register beforehand.

Come by for interesting discussions and activist networking. We will provide snacks and beverages to end the discussion in a relaxed setting.

Please note that the presentation and following discussion will be in English.

We look forward to seeing you there!
