STS Talk by Alan Irwin

STS and Innovation: borderlands, regenerations

and critical engagements.

STS Seminarroom
Universitätsstraße 7/Stiege II/6. Stock (NIG) , 1010 Vienna

Innovation has become a matter of concern which runs through many policy documents, industrial strategies, university missions, public statements and corporate communications. But when it comes to dealing with socio-technical change, is innovation part of the solution or of the problem? And what does this suggest for the relationship between STS and neighbouring fields, especially Innovation Studies? In this presentation, I will reflect upon STS’s contribution to the study of innovation, but also look ahead to some future possibilities.

Alan Irwin is a professor in the Department of Organization (IOA) at Copenhagen Business School, where he coordinates the RIO (Research, Innovation, and Organization) group. His previous research covers issues of public engagement with science, citizen science and science and technology policy. He was the Principal Investigator on a recent research project exploring ‘isomorphic difference’ in Chinese, US and Danish policymaking.

You can either participate in the STS Seminar Room (Universitätsstraße 7/Stiege II/6. Stock (NIG) 1010 Vienna) or you can also join us via Zoom.
