Nachts auf der Sternwarte

The mysterious dance of old stellar clusters (Alice Zocchi)

Institut für Astrophysik
Türkenschanzstr. 17, 1180 Wien

Lecture

Globular clusters are tight groups of stars, held together by their own gravity and constantly moving in a mysterious dance. They were formed when the Universe was very young and they represent the 'lego blocks' of larger galaxies, where we find them today, including in our own Milky Way. Encoded in the light and motion of their stars, there are some hidden clues on the ancient universe and on how these stellar systems formed and evolved. In this talk I will describe how we can decode this information, by using mathematical models and computer simulations, with the language of stellar dynamics.

The talk will be in English.
