SC/TAA-Talk von Prof. Amit Bhatt

Relevance of ARM Architecture in the Machine Learning (ML) / Deep Learning (DL) Era

Fakultät für Informatik, Seminarraum 5
Währinger Straße 29, 1090 Wien

Vortrag

Für einen gemeinsamen Talk der Forschungsgruppen Scientific Computing (SC) und Theory & Applications of Algorithms (TAA) konnte Prof. Amit Bhatt gewonnen werden, der am Freitag, den 8. März 2019, um 11.00 einen Talk zum Thema „Relevance of ARM Architecture in the Machine Learning (ML) / Deep Learning (DL) Era“ halten wird.

Über seinen Vortrag verrät Prof. Amit Bhatt vorab: „With the advent of ML and DL era,all major chip makers and even those companies not generally known to make chips like Google, Amazon and Microsoft have entered in to a race - either to provide framework or design an "AI chip". Now there seems to be a clear distinction between those companies which provide hardware for the training part of the NN and those who provide hardware for the inference part at the end node. In training part, Nvidia GPU and to some extent Google TPU have cornered the market along with Intel Xeon CPU. The major churn is on the inference side. It is now understood that "edge processing" is almost a requirement as reaching out to the cloud for processing may lead to unacceptable latency. In this lecture, attempts by ARM to provide solutions for AI/ML/DL will be explained. With increasingly restrictive power budget, some of the end nodes can not afford to have luxury of having an ARM Cortex-A series processor. New solutions have emerged which can be ported on Cortex M series processors to provide power efficient ML solutions.“

Bhatt ist aktuell am Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DAIICT) in Indien tätig.
