"The Hebrew Bible’s Historical and Literary Truth"

Fania Oz-Salzberger

Sitzungssaal des Dekanates der Katholisch-Theologischen Fakultät
Universitätsring 1, 1010 Wien

Seminar, Workshop, Kurs

Fania Oz-Salzberger will discuss the Bible in terms of cultural history: even if many people and events in the biblical narrative cannot be corroborated archeologically or historically, it bears true witness to the ancient society able to tell these stories. Moreover, its “literary truth” has been deeply affective during the last three millennia, and will continue to be so.

Prof. Oz-Salzberger (*1960) is an Israeli historian and writer; she teaches at the University of Haifa School of Law and Center for German and European Studies. She is director of Paideia, the European Institute for Jewish Studies in Sweden. Together with her father Amos Oz she published “Jews and Words”, with a literary approach towards biblical stories.

Oz, Amos/Oz-Salzberger, Fania: Jews and Words. New Haven: Yale University Press 2012. (auch auf Deutsch erschienen als “Juden und Worte”).
