The diffusion model for conflict tasks (DMC; Ulrich, Schröter, Leuthold & Birngruber, 2015, Cognitive Psychology) combines conceptual features of standard diffusion models with the notion of controlled and automatic processes. Specifically, DMC assumes that the activations of these two processes superimpose to trigger the response. DMC can account for a variety of distributional properties in conflict tasks (e.g., Eriksen flanker, Simon, Stroop) and neurophysiological data. In particular, DMC is compatible with all observed shapes of delta functions, including negative-going functions that are especially challenging for most models including standard diffusion models. In this talk, I will introduce DMC and discuss some of its major predictions.
