Vortrag

Media art opened new horizons for the visualizations of dramatic issues. In postmodern stagings, projections, cameras and image processing in real- time form scenic environments by use of image databases and let the pictures move with the action. In postdramatic productions the technical possibilities of the media determine the subjects of the performances and show new perceptions of the real and fantastic fiction.

After a survey of postmodern and postdramatic construction techniques some recent stage productions are discussed: “The Knight of the Rose”, “Mozart!”, “Gitanjali”, “Cléopâtre”, “The Ring of the Nibelung”, “Ghost The Musical”, “Tosca”, the virtual operas of the Munich Biennale, “Desert Rain”, “The Waste Land”, the live media performance “Breaking News”, “Talking Head”, and “The Rite of Spring”, an interactive real-time generated stereoscopic stage based media art performance produced at the Ars Electronica Futurelab.
