Vortrag

"Laser Processing of Technological Materials"

Lasers are widely used in the laboratory and in Industry for a large diversity of applications. Indus-trial production processes rely nowadays heavily on the use of automated, high power laser sys-tems for drilling, cutting, surface modification and many other important materials transformation operations.

"Laser Processing of Technological Materials"

There are many types of lasers with unique characteristics, although several of them are most widely used in Industry and for materials processing at large. Laser emission and materials properties are most important in defining the laser-mater interaction regime, and con¬sequently, the types of phenomena that may be observed when irradiating a specific material.

A brief overview of the different laser-matter interaction regimes that underly behind laser-material processing will be given from a physico-chemical perspec¬tive. This will be followed by selected corresponding examples of applications based on laser heating, melting and ablation.
