"Multi-Scale Molecular Designing of Nanosized Particles and High-Density Nanostructured Materials via Pressureless Sintering"

The science and technology of nanostructured materials have gained worldwide prominence in recent years as the areas with great potential for new technological advancement. A succinct overview of the most recent research in the molecular designing of nanosized particles and nanostructured materials via pressureless sintering carried out in the author’s laboratory during the past several years will be the focus of this presentation. Various bottom-up and top-down methods for preparation of nanosized particles with controlled physicochemical and morphological properties will be presented. Numerous examples that describe the preparation of oxide, non-oxide, metallic, polymeric and composite multifunctional nanoparticles will be given. A special attention will be paid to optimization of microstructural constituents during consolidation of nanosized powders and fabrication of full-density nanostructured materials by pressureless sintering. Experimental data dealing with size-dependent properties of nanostructured materials will be discussed. A broad range of functional materials, including electronic, energy-related, sensor, optical, catalytic and biomedical materials, will be dealt with in this presentation.
