"The Origins and Significance of Historical Epistemology"
UZAII/Rotunde, Seminarraum 2H467
Althanstraße 14, 1090 Wien
Vortrag
At the first International Congress of Philosophy, which was held in Paris in 1900, the participants adopted one of two approaches, historical or logical. These approaches in due course gave rise to historical epistemology and analytic philosophy of science. Although the latter has become dominant, worries have persistently come up with regard to a purely formal method. And several innovative scholars are emphasizing today the need to call on history. The aim of this talk is to go back over the origins and development of historical epistemology and to reassess the arguments in favor of historical inquiry.
Anastasios Brenner is Professor of Philosophy at Université Paul Valéry-Montpellier III.
