The University of Vienna invites all interested parties to guided tours through the Main Building. In 1884, Emperor Franz Joseph I inaugurated the new Main Building on the Ringstrasse erected by the architect Heinrich von Ferstel.
Guided tours are available both in German and English and provide an insight into the oldest university in the German-speaking world. Highlights of the tour are the Arcade Court in the shape of a "campo santo", the Main Ceremonial Chamber (whenever available) decorated with copies of the paintings by Gustav Klimt and Franz Matsch and the Large Reading Room of the University Library.
Approximately 92,500 students are currently enrolled at the University of Vienna. With a staff of about 9,500 – more than 6,700 of whom are academics – the University of Vienna is Austria‘s largest teaching and research institution.
