Persistent Homology: Theory, Algorithms, and Applications

Fakultät für Informatik - Seminarraum 7
Währinger Straße 29, 1090 Wien

Vortrag

Persistent homology is a novel form of data analysis fromthe field of computational topology. The basic idea in persistence isto first transform the data into a growing sequence of sets called afiltration. It then tracks the connectivity changes as the filtrationgrows and stores them in a persistence diagram. This diagram can beinterpreted as a topological summary of the data and is robust againstperturbations of the input data. In this talk, I will give anintuitive definition of persistent homology, introduce a noveldistributed algorithm for its computation, and finally present somerecent applications.
