STS Talks Vienna

Elenor Amstrong (Science Education, Stockholm University):

“What do we talk about when we talk about outer space?“

STS Seminar Room, NIG, St. II. 6th floor
Universitätsstraße 7, 1010 Wien

Vortrag

Abstract

In this talk I take public pedagogy - a framework that asks us to consider who is creating and circulating which narratives and to which ends in public spaces - to look at how outer space as a topic comes to be presented in anglophone contexts. I will consider the tensions between what is developed by cultural elites and by subaltern groups, as well as the (re)negotiations to make explicit (space) science’s patriarchal, capitalist, and militaristic ties.
