This workshop will explore the different roles of the Latin language during Italian Fascism and German National Socialism. With an international team of researchers from the Netherlands and Norway, we will shed light on cultural dynamics surrounding the Latin language and the classical heritage. We will discuss to which extent Latin was politicized and used for ideological purposes in Mussolini's regime and how it gradually turned into a language of resistance or subtle critique and into a means of inner emigration in National Socialist Germany. While the morning and afternoon sessions are in-group-discussions about ongoing research and work-in-progress, we would like to welcome everyone to join us for the two evening lectures.
