Beschreibung
“The story of work is to a great extent the history of humankind,” writes historian Jan Lucassen in the introduction to his monumental Story of Work. “But what exactly do we mean by work?” From waged labor in the factory or on the field to unpaid care work at home, (re)productive human activity can indeed take many forms, not all of which receive equal recognition in monetary or other terms. The 2026 RECET History and Social Sciences Festival “Transformations of Labor” will explore some of the facets of the past and present of this ubiquitous phenomenon. Over three days, important voices from the academy, art, activism and society will discuss the many transformations of labor. These lectures, debates and panel discussions will be accompanied by an attractive cultural program.
