Abstract
In the ruins of LGBT assimilation, where fascism has all but swallowed the social, what histories of escape might offer us a way out, or at least through, our current condition? This paper will consider underground collectives including the May 19th Communist Organization, the Black Liberation Army, the George Jackson Brigade and others affiliated with the the militant left of the long 1970s. While trans/queerness were not centralized as political projects, gender and sexual nonnormativity carved the edges of many of these movements. Taking this view not only calls for a reassessment of these histories, but also, and perhaps more importantly, allows for an alternative genealogy of trans/queer politics for today.
