Gastvortrag von Univ.-Prof. Dr. Manfred Koller (Universität für Angewandte Kunst Wien)

Universität Wien, Chemische Institute, Hörsaal 4, Halbstock
Währinger Straße 42, 1090 Wien

Seminar, Workshop, Kurs

The conservation of the historical heritage in Austria and elsewhere are depending on three main prob¬lems:

1) material and technique of first execution,

2) conditions of environment during its history,

3) manipulations and treatments throughout its history.

Therefore strategies for examination and conserva¬tion have firstly to study the objects after these aspects to develop individual methods to under¬stand the mechanisms of decay and the actual state. Afterwards it can be decided upon how fare and in which way operations for conservation and restoration are justified. These problems will be dis¬cussed and illustrated for several case-studies for facades and works of stone, polychrome sculpture and painting.
