The University of Vienna kindly invites all interested parties to Guided Tours through the Main Building.

Founded by Duke Rudolf IV in 1365, it moved after being inaugurated by Emperor Franz Joseph I. in 1884, to the new Main Building on the Ringstraße, erected by the architect Heinrich Ferstel.

The Guided Tours, which are available in both German and English, provide an insight into the interiors of the oldest university in the German-speaking cultural area.

Approximately 91,000 students are currently enrolled at the University of Vienna. With a staff of about 9,400 - of whom more than 6,700 are scientists- it is the most significant teaching and research institution in Austria and one of the largest universities in Central Europe.

The guided tour starts off in the Assembly Hall and includes architectural highlights as the Arcade Court, the Great Reading Room of the University Library, as well as - whenever available - the Main Ceremonial

Chamber, with its renowned ceiling, decorated with copies of the destroyed mural paintings by Gustav Klimt.

Every Saturday, 10:30 am (German), 11:30 am (English)

Every Thursday, 6 pm, July through September (German only)

No reservation or registration necessary.

Duration: Approx. 60 minutes

Charge:

Adults: EUR 5; Children (< 6 years): free

Discounts for students, pupils, conscripts, seniors: EUR 3.00

Tickets are available at the concierge desk (assembly hall).
