Scientific Progress and the Search for Truth

Lecturer: Prof. Philip Kitcher (Columbia University)

Alte Kapelle am Campus der Universität Wien
Spitalgasse 2-4 / Hof 2.8, 1090 Wien

Vortrag

Abstract:

Scientific progress is often understood in terms of increasing recognition of the truth. In this evening lecture, co-organized by the Institute Vienna Circle and the Central European University’s Philosophy Department, philosopher of science Philip Kitcher (John Dewey Professor of Philosophy, Columbia University) will argue against that view and defend an alternative, pragmatic conception of scientific progress that recognizes scientific inquiry sinevitably pervaded by a wide range of value judgments
