The Psychopathology of Binge Eating Disorder:

From Evidence to Treatment

Talk of Prof. Jennifer Svaldi (University of Tübingen)

Fakultät für Psychologie, Hörsaal G, 2. Stock (linke Stiege)
Liebigasse 5, 1010 Wien

Vortrag

Binge eating disorder (BED) is characterized by repetitive episodes of binge eating accompanied by an utter loss of control. Given meta-analyses on the efficacy of treatments of BED, cognitive-behavioral therapy is currently recommended as treatment of choice with regard to primary and secondary symptoms of BED. However, drop-out and relapse rates in empirically-validated treatments are still high. Knowledge on the psychopathology of BED can therefore yield important implications for its treatment, in that interventions can be better aligned with identified mechanisms that maintain BED. The talk therefore presents results on cognitive and emotional mechanisms of maintenance of BED and discusses the integration of these results into established BED treatments.
