As experimental sociology is situated between social psychology and behavioral economics, sociologists have been influenced by both neighboring disciplines and have developed their own research paradigms in line with the standards defined by these disciplines. This has resulted in a reduplication within sociology of various persuasions about the elements of a proper experiment and the do’s and don’ts peculiar to either the one or the other neighboring discipline. The conference will engage in a disciplinary discussion of sociological experimentation, not aiming at defining a specific standard as correct, but at identifying conditions under which the one or other standard may be helpful in answering specifically sociological research questions.
