Vortrag

Professor Frank-Johnson analyzes the Habsburg monarchy’s overseas impe-rial aspirations. Maritime commerce created welcome opportunities to solidify Austria-Hungary’s position as a Great Power but also entailed unforeseen challenges. In her lecture, she will use drug trafficking on ships of the Austrian Lloyd to reflect on the empire’s complex entanglement in international politics and commerce at the turn of the twentieth century.
