The history of Muslim anti-Semitism does not begin with the foundation of the state Israel. Jew hatred can be traced from the very beginning of Islam until today. This conference wants to trace the development of Muslim anti-Semitism from its beginnings during Muhammed’s stay in Medina via Muslim persecutions of Jews during the middle ages to the Dhimmitude of Muslim states, the persecutions of Jews during the 19th and 20th centuries (including Muslim participation in the Shoah), until contemporary Muslim anti-Zionist Jew hatred. In this way, we want to demonstrate that Muslim anti-Semitism is not a contemporary phenomenon. It did not begin as a response to the foundation of the State of Israel but was only intensified by this event. Contemporary anti-Semitism in the Islamic world builds on early Muslim traditions as well as on Christian thought going back to antiquity.
