For many years the Department of Near Eastern Studies of the University of Vienna has maintained a focus on the studies of Tunisian dialects which has also been motivated by the fact that wide areas of the Maghreb are still not covered very well linguistically. The conference should improve the status quo of research on Tunisia and Libya. Its focus is on linguistic aspects but also a wider range of topics, in particular questions regarding corpus linguistics and digital humanities, are addressed.
