The Middle East, a region at the junction between Africa, Europe, and Asia, is covered by deserts, mountains, steppes, valleys and river deltas. This region is home to a diverse fauna of mammals, reptiles, birds, insects as well as marine organisms and invertebrates. The workshop “Middle Eastern Animals: Interdisciplinary Perspectives from Early Modern to Contemporary Times” will focus on this diversity and explore the role animals as non-human persons have played throughout the history of the Middle East region for the past centuries. It aims to find meeting points and stimulate exchange between graduate students, early-career researchers, and professors across disciplines when thinking about animals and human-animal relations.
