The Afternoon Talks are a series of lectures that aim at bringing together young researchers and experts from different fields to discuss various aspects of a doctorate and how to prepare best for the next steps in the career.

The 2nd Afternoon Talk focuses on Reserach collaborations with indurstry. Research funding from industry is assuming increasing importance for Universities, as public finances are squeezed. However, industry funding usually comes with strings attached. Ingrid Kelly, Technology Transfer Manager and Vivian Salpius, Legal Advisor and Deputy Head of the University of Vienna Research Services will discuss how to negotiate industry-funded research agreements, and address some of the common difficulties encountered, in particular with regard to budgeting, publication rights, and intellectual property ownership.
