Vortrag

In autumn 2017, the Jigme Shingye Wangchuk School of Law started its teaching programme. It is the first law school in Bhutan, and the 25 students, recruited form all provinces across Bhutan, will be the first law students trained inside the country. The project to establish a law school has been under way for several years and is closely connected to the country's development strategy, its commitment to the concept of Gross National Happiness as well as to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Wolfram Schaffar, who has been involved in the planning process and who is part of a group of foreign guest lecturers at the law school, will discuss aspects of law and development and the role of the legal sector in society and politics in Bhutan.
