The film series CINEMA & HUMAN RIGHTS which is a part of the human rights film festival this human world is titled #DIREN//BERXWE BIDE//RESIST – spaces, brothers, sisters and others and focuses on various forms of resistance in Turkey.

As a part of this series, we will screen the film “ECUMENOPOLIS – CITY WITHOUT LIMITS”:

Istanbul’s high-rise luxury apartments, shrinking green space and urban sprawl all point to foreign investment, driven by a government led ‘urban renewal’ policy and lax legal controls. The price of this influx of capital is paid by the very people who build these great structures – they are evicted from their homes and must fight for their right to a place to live.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion which will be held in English. We are looking forward to Sabine KNIERBEIN (Head of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Urban Culture and Public Space (SKuOR)) and Bertan KOYUNCU (Architect; Academy of Fine Arts Vienna). Moderation: Sandra BENECCHI (Research Centre Human Rights, University of Vienna).
