Prof. Masolo was born and brought up in Kenya. He was awarded a doctoral degree in philosophy at the Università Gregoriana in Rome, Italy. After his studies he taught philosophy at the University of Nairobi and was a member of the sage philosophy project of Henry Odera Oruka. Later he continued his academic career in the United States of America. Today, he is one of the most influential thinkers in the debates on philosophy in Africa.

 

Prof. Masolo’s research focuses on philosophical traditions as both part and functions of social histories and on the philosophical significance of African cultures and their contributions to philosophical discourses in a global context.
