Vortrag

The purpose of this talk is to discuss the convergences and divergences of music and educational experiences applied to peace building in the context of Colombia’s post-conflict.

This is a case study of a peace building music education experience that took place in the Department of Nariño, Colombia articulated with the program ‘Manos a la Paz’ (MAP). The MAP program is a joint initiative from Colombia’s Government and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) oriented to support the peace building capabilities within the country through the participation of 33 different universities in projects focused on overcoming poverty and economic development, Sustainable development and environment, Local governability, Coexistence and Reconciliation.

This projects are executed by students in their final year of Bachelor’s studies through internships or professional practices. In 2016, three hundred youngsters from more than 7000 applicants, where selected being the first group to start the program. Within that group, just one student from a Music Program was selected. Her project was the first attempt inside the

MAP program to take direct actions on peace building from music.

This study shows how the existent gap between music experience and its subjacent pedagogical knowledge, can be reduced through deconstruction of the music and pedagogical experience. The MAP program showed how a peace building approach to music education can make major contributions to Pacific Coexistence and Reconciliation in Colombia’s Post-Conflict.
